Indian Canoes was a canoe river ride that was offered at Frontierland from April 12, 1992. During this ride, visitors boarded Indian canoes and were taken by 2 Cast Members. Together they cruised Rivers of the Far West, the lake in Frontierland that surrounds Big Thunder Mountain.
The attraction was offered for only two and a half years at Disneyland Paris, from the opening in 1992 to October 1994. Several reasons are given for their disappearance: the economic difficulties of Disneyland Paris during its first years and the difficulty of the work of the Cast Members who often found themselves paddling alone.
Indians Canoes departed from Geronimo Landing – in place of the current Frontierland Playground – and the canoes could take up to 20 visitors on a 10 to 15 minute ride around Big Thunder Mountain.
The canoes passed as close as possible to the mountain which, while it already seemed huge from Thunder Mesa, seemed even bigger to them! They also sailed on now forgotten shores near Wilderness Island and under Rainbow Arch which can only be seen from the Molly Brown now...
Inspired by the Indian canoes visible in the Davy Crockett films produced by Disney in the 1950s, Indian Canoes disappeared in 1994 at Disneyland Paris
